Best Quality DVDs available? (US vs. UK)

After hearing the story on the writers on NPR & always liking the original movie, I really want to get this. However I don't want to waste money on cheap/poorly transferred DVDs & can wait for a proper release. I've never heard of Mill Valley & can't find reviews of the quality. My hunch is that the UK sets (which are 5 discs/season as opposed to 3/season for the US) would be better quality. Anyone know?

I have not seen any DVD sets from the UK so I cannot speak to that. The only sets I have seen from the US are issued by Millcreek Entertainment. Their quality is good but not great. The Millcreek sets were released in the order they were broadcast on American television. The first three seasons, from 1955 to 1958 were released in three-disk sets of thirty-nine episodes each. I bought each of the first three season separately. Millcreek is not releasing the last or fourth season of twenty-six episodes (broadcast in the U.S. from 1959-1960 ... skipping a year) separately. Millcreek is however releasing all four seasons together in one package, forcing U.S. buyers to re-buy the first three seasons just to get the fourth season disks. Back to the question of quality, my only complaint about the first season released by Millcreek is that the ending credits did not always match the episodes with which they were paired. It was as if Season One was rushed into production, splicing any credits they could find onto the end. Also, some Millcreek episodes on the Season One disk also included orginal American commercial advertisments.
