Symbolism: Motorcycle, Leather Jacket, Cup of Coffee
The filmmakers used symbolism to express underline meanings of the movie.
Motorcycle, represents FREEDOM, a vehicle to REBEL against the politically correct system which the dynamic sect of white collar business men can be more dangerous than the individual motorcyclist(Johnny). In the case of the movie the small town people are more harmful to their society when they try to dictate what is accepted as the norm or mainstay in society(right vs. wrong).
Leather Jacket: Tough, badge of honor that shows you are a real man that does not let your feelings show. It is part of your skin it shelters your from letting everyone see your feminine emotions or allowing you to share somebody's feelings.
Cup of Coffee: Represents peace and harmony a common ground where two different life styles can come together to share and learn. It also is a form of non-verbal communication. Recall the coffee shop scenes when Johnny's gang is drinking it up and he goes to other side of shop and asks Cathy for a cup of coffee (I am interested, and think you are special) or at the end of the movie when he is suppose to leave town, Johnny goes into the cafe and orders a cup of coffee to say thank you for your help with the law.
