Yellow Dress

Wow! That number with Vera-Ellen in the yellow dress dancing with John Brascia is brilliant.

reply

Yep, she is gorgeous! My favourite thing about watching this film with the family every December.

That number was "Abraham" from Holiday Inn. Love the number, love him, REALLY love her, and what blows my mind is she danced in shoes that were not visibly strapped to her feet.

reply

I have always wondered why it was called Abraham!

reply

Brascia was a tremendous dancer. He should have been a star.

I guess the answer is that the world is full of great hoofers. It's probably time, opportunity, and luck which makes a star.

Quick story - my oldest brother is a gifted musician like our dad was. When my brother was 10 years old, he was playing trumpet in our city's orchestra. When he moved away from the horn and onto science subjects (like chemistry and electronics, both at which he excelled), my dad was thrilled because he was good enough to make a career with music, but dad always said the world is full of great musicians. He was afraid my brother would be living out of a suitcase never making it big.
