Donald O'Connor just finished high school right? So he should have been under 20 but he looked about 40!

And I know this was 1954 but when Steve went off at the beginning and came home late because he was wandering through the park I was for sure he was going to say he was gay.

But I actually enjoyed this film even though Ethel Mermans singing voice makes me want to rip my ears off...

i was thinking the same thing! that actor was too old to be playing a young man that was 19-20 in age. even the actress who played the younger sister looked way older than 18

O'Connor was born in 1925. He would have been in his late twenties when making the film.

By the way, a lot of Priests are gay.
