Any specific location info?

Can anyone please give us useful location names etc for the river scenes in this film? The homestead area? Are these accessible or impossible to trek to? Thanks.

wow i've been there! i didn't know that she was ever there! I'm like a huge fan of Marilyn's and to think that I was where she was once standing is like kind of awesome!

Also, some of the whitewater footage was filmed in "Hollywood Gorge" on the Toutle river in western Washington. That and other sections of the river were substantially altered by mudflows from the eruption of Mt. St Helens in 1980, though it is said that that portion of the river is gradually clearing and may become more like it was. The movie originally filmed in that area (giving 'Hollwood Gorge' its name) was 'God's Country and the Woman', is interesting in that most of the locations used in that movie have been fundamentally destroyed.

my dad and I just took a road trip last week and went through Jasper Alberta, which is where he grew up. Apparently, when he was about 4 or 5 years old, he met Marilyn while she was shooting this film. He remembers not being all that impressed and thought she was a schoolteacher.

Some river scenes were filmed at Bow Falls on the Bow River in Banff. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is nearby. This information was noted at the hotel on a recent visit.

The river scenes were shot in the Athebasca(sp) River.

The movie was largely shot in the Banff area and Miss Monroe was banned from the Banff Springs Hotel (where the cast and crew were staying) on the grounds of her unreasonable behaviour.

Most of the movie was shot in Jasper, Alberta (on the Athabasca River). Some of it was shot in Banff but not much because the landscape, while stunning, is not as easily accessable as it is in Jasper. I lived for 10 years in Jasper and many of the local population had parts as extra. Go to Jasper Camera and Gift in Jasper and they have lots of info because the owner's parents were extras. Naturally, there are many pictures available in Jasper that capture the filming.

I saw where Marilyn stayed in Banff at the Banff Springs Resort but where did she stay in Jasper?

At Jasper Park Lodge

marilyn was not banned from the Banf Springs hotel. It was the Jasper Park Lodge that tossed her out for wearing improper clothes (jeans shorts and a halter top) She was with her husband, Jolting Joe Dimaggio. I know this because I was there at the time. I even shared a swim in the Lodge pool with Marilyn Monroe. Too bad I was only twelve at the time.

This may, or may not, be true. However, when I went on an historic tour of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, the guide said he remembered Marilyn's stay there, especially because she was on crutches due to a hurt ankle from filming on the river. Bith the Bow River and the Athabasca rivers were used in the film. The Bow Falls near Banff was an obvious location used. Other shots showing the river water as a distictive light blue reflect the melted glacier water of the Canadian Rockies.
