She is good singer. isn't it

Well, watching this movie i think she is good singer. Although she has husky voice, it is her attraction. She is very beautiful. Marilyn Monroe is the best actress I've ever seen. Well, 'River of no Return' may be 1800s' background. Goldrush. In those day, blue jean exist?

Was she dubbed in this movie? I remember reading that Marni Nixon refused to sing for Marilyn in Gentlement Prefer Blondes because she thought Marilyn's voice suited the character more or something like that. I find it interesting that she then agreed to dub her a year later.

Marilyn also sang a full version of the song and I have it on one of her CDs "The Very Best of Marilyn Monroe". She had a fine, sultry voice.

Her rendition of 'River of No Return" charted on 7/10/54 for 1 week at #30 on the Pop charts.

I was going to ask that question. I wanted to know if she played the guitar in this film or if it was dubbed. I have to say that that woman is full of surprises and unknown talents.

reply

Marni only did one line.

reply

Not true. Sorry. Listen. It's all her voice, she could do a lot with it.

reply

NO! NO! NO! Marilyn was never dubbed. Lionel Newman, the head musical arranger at Fox said she never required ANY dubbing at all, "not one note." This was many years after her death, and he had no reason to protect her.

Listen, she sang in Korea--under terrible conditions, but it's still recognizably her movie voice, and of course "Happy Birthday, Mr. President."

Jack Cole, who was her choreographer, said "She loved to sing and she could sing very well. But she couldn't dance." (If you notice, her "dancing" is mostly posing. But very appealing posing.

reply

Never, ever dubbed! All her records were released with her name on the label. Fox Studios could NOT have done this if MM was dubbed. Lionel Newman, the head of the Fox music department said, years after MM's death--when there was no reason to protect her: "She never needed dubbing. Not one note, and she loved to sing and was great to work with."

Are you not counting her high notes in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"?

Jeans were developed in America around 1872. Levi Strauss was a Bavarian dry goods merchant living in San Francisco. One of Levi's customers was Jacob Davis, a tailor who frequently purchased bolts of cloth from the Levi Strauss & Co wholesale house. After one of Jacob's costumers kept purchasing cloth to reinforce torn pants, he had an idea to use copper rivets to reinforce the points of strain, such as on the pocket corners and at the base of the button fly. Jacobs did not have the required money to purchase a patent, so he wrote to Levi suggesting that they both go into business together. After Levi accepted Jacobs offer, on May 20, 1873, the two men received patent #139,121 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the blue jean was born.

Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars.

I watched this yesterday - I knew she could sing; but what I wanted to know was could she could play the guitar, so I watched her hands. She did a lot of basic strumming, with her right hand, no fancy picking. She also only used her hand, no pick. But she was very good at changing chords with her left. I don't think she was a player before this film was made, but when through a basic instruction course for this movie.
