Why doesn't Jeff ever mention the sound of glass breaking and a woman's scream he heard on the night he thought Thorwald killed his wife? I find that puzzling especially when he tries so hard to convince Doyle that there was a murder.

shareI literally just saw this film on TCM and I know the scene you are referring to. I don't get it either! This "kind" of sound is not something that would be commonly heard ( judging by the reaction) amongst the apartments. So, why wasn't this mentioned to the police friend?
Hopefully someone else will be able to shed some light on this question for us.
Yeah, I was also wondering why he didn't keep bringing that up. Maybe he mentioned it off-screen, but it's weird because it was one of the most convincing pieces of evidence.
shareI thought about that and I came up with this: straight after he heard the quick shriek and Tupperware breaking,
he then saw the 'balcony couple' rushing to get inside with their mattress and sheets because there was a sudden downpour of rain. As they were rushing in, the hubby dropped something which was hanging from the balcony, all the way to the ground below, which made a small 'crashing' sound. Now I assume Jeff attributed the earlier Tupperware breaking to something similar and nothing because there always seemed to be some noise coming form the various apartments. A quiet complex it was not.
