brando looked a lot like burt reynolds

i never noticed that before

they could be nearly twins, if you put em side by side. (in their early days)

also, i love the godfather but i never thought brando was old enough to play don corleon ....and that was exactly 20 years after this one.

Heh, just watching it on TCM now myself...yes, a resemblance in the forehead and eyebrows.

And Reynolds did a wicked impersonation of Brando, which was featured in a 1962 episode of The Twilight Zone.

It's on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY2OE6vBxQM

Burt Reynolds was originally cast as Sonny in The Godfather but Brando objected. Is it possible he did not like Reynolds because of this uncanny send up in The Bard Twilight Zone episode?

reply

You mean BURT looks a lot like Brando--in his younger days anyway.

And funny you mentioned it, because Reynold's impression of Brando in his "Twilight Zone" appearance was uncanny.

Brando hated Reynolds with a passion though, so I would never mention Burt Reynolds in front of Brando back when he was alive.

Sicilian Do you have any idea for Brando's dislike of Reynolds?

You know, the more we learn about Brando, the worse he looks. And please, don't bring up his half-a** involvement with the American Indians and the Black Panthers.

well brando was 47 when he made the film.
don vito was 54 years when the movie starts and around 61 when he died...so why would you say he was not ready to play that role coz when the film started they were nearly the same age and then the character ages

"Im just a bum sitting in a motor home on a film set, BRANDO said, and they come looking for ZEUS".

reply

oh. okay

well then technically i am way off base. except that, real age and movie age are two very different things. it's why a 30 year old can still play a high schooler.

it's how he 'looked' to me..... he just looked too young to have 30 year old sons, but it has been many years since i saw it. (about 20) ...so maybe it wouldn't hit me that way if i rewatched it

but i remember at the time thinking his 'powdered' hair seemed very fake looking, like in theater productions. and he looked generally young and spry to me

but sometimes they make huge jumps. like, danny glover was 41 when he played a 50 YO in L W I

and tommy lee jones was WAY young to be playing woodrow call, but he nailed it

LMFAO! it's true, i think that's why brando hated him so much he was lesser version of himself .Like looking in a mirror and seeing a bizarro world version of yourself .

lol

bizarro, who says that. i forget

Did anyone notice how alike , (on the cover of 'On the Waterfront') Brando looks like Paul Newman(or vice versa) and many actors did try to act in the same manner as Brando

reply

Yes, Reynolds was a dead ringer for Brando when he was younger. It's probably why he later went with the mustached look in the 70s. He would've forever been living under Brando's shadow otherwise.
