Edie is about 30. Her father threatens to return her to the care of nuns
Eva Marie Saint was aged 30 at the time of filming and that is the age Edie looks. Her father threatens to return her to college and the care of nuns. As she is nearly a decade past the age of majority, how come he could do this? And why should he?
Only one other reviewer questions Edie's complete lack of caution in going alone with an almost stranger to a fairly rough bar and drinking alcohol - spirits and beer - and being reliant on him to take her home. She seems sexually extremely inflammable but quite unaware of it and the obvious dangers. Her brother having just been killed she nevertheless seems largely cheerful and untroubled, neither fretting nor methodically engaged in finding his killer(s).
Was this portrayal deliberately of a woman with a lower mental age - or a male fantasy of a beautiful, passionate but entirely unchallenging woman?
