Brando's best film/Grace Kelly

I've seen a number of Brando's films, including The Godfather and A Streetcar Named Desire, but I think this was his best. His performance could not have been better. He also had great chemistry with Saint; they worked very well together on this film. From what I've read, Grace Kelly was offered the part, but turned it down. I think that was best for the movie because she wouldn't have made a good, multi-faceted character that was needed for Edie Doyle.

He won. Get over it.

Although Edie Doyle appears quite prudish in the earlier scenes, I imagine that Kelly would have greater difficulty in shedding her air of aristocracy where it's needed in the second half of the film.
Oh, and I agree that it's one of Brando's best. I slightly prefer 'The Godfather', but they're both in my top ten.

I can't see Grace Kelly in a "method" driven cast.

Even though Grace Kelly was offered the part of Edie Doyle she did turn it down preferring to make, " Rear Window," instead director Elia
Kazan said in his autobiography, A Life, that the choice of an actress to play Edie Doyle came down to Elizabeth Montgomery and Eva Marie Saint. Even though Montgomery did fine in her screen test there was something well bred about her that Kazan thought would not be becoming for Edie, who was raised on the waterfront in Hoboken, New Jersey. He gave the role to Saint.

The Godfather is the greater film, but I won't argue this is Brando's best performance.
