You're talking about the original 1954 Japanese version of Gojira? Not the 1956 American version Godzilla: King of the Monsters?

To me, that seems awfully low for Gojira. I can kinda see it for King of the Monsters, though.

50 years ago it deserved an A grade. By todays standarts a much lower grade...

Strongly disagree, I think maybe you should look at it from an artistic perspective and appreciate the cinematography, the low angle shots from a distance, the use of darkness, the heavy social content in the Godzilla allegory as well as the Congressional (Diet building) scenes, maybe to you it could work to see it in the context of 1954 and see how groundbreaking and moving it would be to a Japanese citizen at the time. To me the film stands firmly relevant and amazing.

Ok it's hard to defend any of these as great movies I gave my scores as best as I could but that being said besides Revenge Of Godzilla and Godzilla Raids Again I pretty much love watching all of the Showa Era Godzilla movies.

For me the three greatest are Gojira, Godzilla vs. Mothra, and Terror of Mechagodzilla. The worst is beyond a doubt Godzilla's Revenge.

I don't really get Godzilla vs Mothra hype. Not that it was bad, but Godzilla sequels were all about mindless smashing and huge, cool monsters, and I personally think Godzilla Vs Smog Monster, King Kong Vs Godzilla, and Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster did it best. In Mothra, you have this irritating ''Infant Island'' plot, and giant butterfly was nowhere near as cool as fire breathing King Kong or Ghidorah. And the last fight between Godzilla and two giant Mothra caterpillars were kind of a downer.

Not a bad movie, but I would put it much lower than anyone else.
