Scenic Water Fight
The fight between Alan Ladd's & Charles Bronson's characters in the river is incredible. The outdoor location is magnificent to behold!

shareIt wasnt realistic for the powerfully built Bronson to lose a fight to Ladd.
Absurdity: A Statement or belief inconsistent with my opinion.
My thoughts exactly. Bronson could have tied him in knots.
shareI agree, which is why film makers ought to respect their audience and use a plot device to explain how the weaker guy beat the stronger one. In this fight, maybe Captain Jack could have struck his head on a rock going down the water chute or twisted his shoulder in that fall.
shareThis scene looks like the same river location used in the James Stewart movie, "Broken Arrow". Both filmed in Sedona so I'm assuming it's the same place.
I believe the scene was filmed at Slide Rock State Park, north of Sedona on AZ 89A. It is a favorite for young people who slide downstream over the smooth rock formations. The water slide can be viewed at http://azstateparks.com/parks/slro/
shareYou are right. It was a favourite location for director Delmer Daves who also used it in a further western, The Last Wagon, with Richard Widmark.
shareIt looked familiar
Can you fly this plane?
Surely u cant be serious
I am serious, and dont call me Shirley
What was interesting too was, it looked like Bronson's Double for a good portion of the fight. It looked like Ladd did more or all of it.

The scenery was incredibly beautiful, but patently not Oregon, like it was supposed to be!
shareActually the Modoc lands along Lost River and elsewhere and the Modoc War were in Southern Oregon and Northern California. The Lava beds where most of the fighting was are few miles south of the Oregon-California border.
