Broadway Preview!

Just got back from Manhattan and had to post this about The Country Girl. It's in preview shows in NYS at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre on West 45th Street. Morgan Freeman plays Frank Elgin; Frances McDormand plays Georgie; and Peter Gallagher is Bernie Dodd.

An amazing production, helmed by Mike Nichols. It will have a limited run and if anyone can get preview tix, by all means, get thee there! The production is fast-paced and excellent. During scene changes when they play background music as though from a radio station, a lot of it is Bing Crosby which is a great touch!

I understand it's going to have a limited run once it opens on April 27th but if cheap tickets are available, by all means, grab them. It's well worth it.

I couldn't wait to get home to tap into IMDB - I had a feeling Bill Holden was the Dodd character but wasn't sure until I logged onto the database.

All I can add is WOW-WOW-WOW!!!!!

Thanks for your insight. If wishes were plane tickets, I'd be in New York.

I saw it Thursday night at a sold out preview! Never mind the loose storyline or the lack of glitzy sets. The performances are worth the whole evening. Seeing the chemistry between Freeman and his country girl wife McDormand was a great counterpoint to Gallagher who gives a strong performance as the director. They all did a clinic on good acting.

daigle john, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. The performances had a crackling electricity about them.

I never realized that there was a stage version of this, not a recent one anyway. It sounds fantastic.
