The Country Girl/ Winter Journey

I've been told these were one and the same plays written by Clifford Odets and that the only reason the title was changed because no one liked The Winter Journey for the film version.
Can someone out there clarify, because it seems that The Country Girl has a date of 1950 and Winter Journey a date of 1952. I don't know if these dates were Broadway opening dates or that the plays were different versions of the same characters and situations.
Can anyone out there help?

I'm sure your question was answered some time ago, but yes, THE COUNTRY GIRL and WINTER JOURNEY are the same. THE COUNTRY GIRL was the original title and the change to WINTER JOURNEY occurred when the play was taken to England. There was a popular English comedy titled THE COUNTRY WIFE and the title to be used in England may have been changed to avoid confusion.
