...then she got preggers.

I think she would have been somewhat better than Kelly...a little more vibrant. Kelly tries so hard to be subdued, she doesn't show much range in the part.

I wonder what Uta Hagen's interpretation on stage was like...did she play it mousy, or more neurotic?

Jones was too one-dimensional and "Acting 101" - I don't think she would have had a grasp of the part. I didn't really like Kelly either, though...as the movie progressed she just continued to act the same way in every scene, which got tiring and irritating. I believe the character was written that way, however.
