Pastor Collins

I remember seeing this as a kid and being amazed at his bravery. It still amazes me to this day. He was truly a Man Of God.

Budget cuts had nothing to do with the Apollo Program being canceled.

He was deeply committed, like Reverend Scott (Gene Hackman) in The Poseidon Adventure (1972). We don't see much of that sort of thing today.

What more do you want? We've made it this far no thanks to you! We're not asking you to fight for us, but DAMMIT, DON'T FIGHT AGAINST US!!

That speech brought me to tears the first time I saw that film. Reverend Scott was definitely committed, but not in the same way Pastor Collins was. It was tragically moving to see a Holy Man so disillusioned that he shouted in anger at God. The strength it must have taken to hang onto that sizzling wheel long enough to close the valve is almost beyond measure. The willingness to sacrifice himself to save the rest proved him to be a true Man Of God as well, albeit an angry one.

The louder paranormal debunkers argue, the more terrified they are it's all true.
