Sylvia started out as an intelligent young woman then quickly degenerated into a wild-eyed, hysterical, cowering, screaming, helpless damsel. Does anyone actually find that latter type of character attractive?
shareIn her defense, though, she was hysterical because she just saw her uncle being attacked by the aliens, so of course she's going to be crying & screaming.
She was annoying, though, in another scene when the alien invaded the abandoned farmhouse.
That scene made me cringe. LOL

Yeah, it's a very dated way to present a female character (June Havoc in "The Outer Limits" episode "Cry Of Silence" is an even bigger screaming mimi). It's still a great film, though, and (for me) works better than the 2005 remake. Cruise's kids in that one annoyed me WAY worse than Sylvia.

Nope, nope, nope. She was originally going to make them over easy, but because she was an emotional wreck, she started losing it again, and had to serve them as is. In fact, his eggs were runny and raw, and shortly after the end of the movie, he died of salmonella poisoning.

I have to agree here - she completely did my head in with that shrill hysterical screaming - I was mirroring the lead character when he was shouting "STOP IT! JUST STOP IT!!!"
shareI couldn't agree more! I remember watching this as a kid in the early 70's and even then I recall screaming at the TV "will one of you Martians PLEASE kill that howling hag!" Boy what an annoying character!
