Re-release this film!!!
This is one of the most powerful movies of all time - I think it would be stunning on the big screen. Some distributor should pick this up and give it a theatrical run. Anyone agree?

Yes I do agree. I have seen this movie about two times several years ago (for a college film class) and have never been able to get it out of my mind. But it is the type of movie that only film scholars know about. If it were to be re-released, I am sure it would gain some more due admiration.
It isn't on DVD either! I just submitted 'Ugetsu' as a title suggestion on the website for The Criterion Collection. If anyone else likes this film, I hope they will do the same thing.
I've submitted It,with sanso dayu....
They emailed back, saying they expect more of Mizoguchi to be printed..But didn't say what!!!!!!
The tension!.
Which would you pick more?Sansho or Ugestu??

If it weren't for my local library & its network......I'd still be waiting to see this film.
The VHS version is OK......(Home Vision Cinema)......fully restored w/ a new translation & subtitles.......I was captivated..the very last frame brought me to tears......but this demands a DVD release.
Does anyone know if Ugetsu and Ugetsu Monogatari are the same films? I was looking to purchase Ugetsu Monogatari on eBay, but could only find Ugetsu. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference?
shareYup...that looks like it.

Reasonably good image transfer and good english subtitles with very few spelling mistakes and no grammatical errors that I could detect.
Well worth picking up (especially as it's very cheap) until Criterion get their act together...
