Death of a loved one

Although not exactly the feeling of someone dieing, the only time i've ever felt such intense a feeling in any movie was at the end of Kurosawa's Redbeard, when Otoyo calls into the well; it didn't feel as though I was watching an actor, but an actual person. And damn it was like a knife to the heart.

before I watched 'Tokyo Story', I had watched Bertolucci's 'The Sheltering Sky'. there was another death scene (Malkovich's) in that movie too. And I find it quite similar indeed?

Satiajyt´s Ray Apu´s Trilogy has a main character dying in every movie and it really gets you everytime.

Staying in Japan the main character´s death in Ikiru, though happening offscreen, is also pretty powerful.
