Really interesting discussion. I would never have thought Woody Allen would have picked a western to discuss, though of course Shane is acknowledged as being one of the greats.🐭

Shane is a strange choice for him.

I would think Woody Allen would consider "Little Children" (2006, d. Todd Field) to be his favorite film.

You would think that because you don't know anything about Woody Allen or the reality of the ridiculous accusations against him.

They expected him to choose a comedy but he made the point that all the 'great comedies' such as the Marx Brothers etc. were a 'mixed bag' with fantastic moments throughout but they were not unified works of art.

It's pretty clear: he views Shane as a metaphor for Israel and it's survival.
