Anyone else think the editing was occasionally a little choppy?

I just watched this for the first time. I loved it, except that I thought there were a few moments where the editing was a bit poor. It really only happened in the first hour or so. Anyone else agree?

In the most delicious way....

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is very apparent in the scene where Joe tries to move the Princess to his bed, and he hears the police sirens. It is really choppy there.

Agreed. I'm quite shocked it got an Oscar too :s

reply

I agree, it was the only thing I didn't like about it, I can't believe it got nominated for Best Editing, all the other nominations and wins are fine but that was just ridiculous.

If its just the one scene, surely it isnt that bad? ;)
Where else was it bad?
I didnt notice it though, ill have to watch it again

I personally preferred this over From Here To Eternity, and it did a great job for a not as well known debutant and a seasoned male lead :D

reply

I didn't notice, either, maybe because I'm used to filmmaking being quite a bit different back then than it is now. I preferred this over From Here to Eternity, too.

Imagination is everything. It's a preview of life's coming attractions.

I never noticed it being choppy. You want REALLY choppy editing? Watch Audrey's other film, The Children's Hour.

How many times do I have to tell you? You don't put a bra in a dryer. IT WARPS!

reply

Ok i just watched the scene mentioned, and geez...if that was the only problem people had with the editing surely some comments are very ill informed.
I agree the scene where it switched over to her sleeping on her left side with a top view could have been left out or maybe a bit longer but really it didn't look out of place.
As for the quick flick between the closer camera and the further camera as Joe flipped Ann onto the bed, well that could have been left out too and been one scene and probably was the only thing that might have been changed. But I wouldnt classify it as disastrious.
Realistically no movie is perfectly edited so I dont know what the complaints are unless someone wants to point out more problems they had in the editing which no one hasn't so I am going to assume there were no other problems and people were being nit picky.

funny of you to mention that, for some reason I was certain that I was the only person who noticed. very good film though.
I play cards with J.D. Shelnut, chief of PO-lice! So kiss my ass, you old bastard!
