Am I the only one who....

Preferred Audrey with long hair-the haircut scene always made me so mad because I liked her hair the way it was!!!! Also, I know that Audrey's hair was fairly short at the time-but she had her hair cut in the film so did she grow it long or was it a wig? I never understood that! Does anyone know if she grew her hair long for the film or not?

I too preferred her with long hair especially the scene when she is standing on her bed in that night shirt. I think that was her real hair. I watched the dvd extras and there is one part where she cuts a lock of her own hair with this smile on her face...I guess it could have been a wig though.

What was the standard procedure for haircuts on film back then, because I know that in Les Mis,Anne Hathaway got her hair cut by a hair dresser dressed up as the Hair Hag who gave her an actual haircut on the set. But something tells me that wasn't the case here because the guy who cut Audrey's hair in the film seems like he was more actor than hair dresser-it also sounds very unlikely that they would cut up a wig.

My favorite scene of Audrey with her long hair is where she regains her consciousness and is asking Greg where she is and there's this one shot of her looking down-and her face slowly creases into a smile-She is just down right adorable!

I love Audrey. I cant believe she never had acting lessons other than some stage performances when she was a teen. The scene that gets me is when her assistant is going over the schedule and she starts freaking out with the thank you, no thank,How do you do, etc etc etc and screams Stop!!!!! and the assistant goes to get the Dr. the Dr. gives her the sedative the one guy faints and then her assistant says oh dr. and Audrey sits up and yells Ha!. I replay that part like 5 times before continuing on with the movie.

It's funny how the same thing happens to her in "Sabrina." In that film, she also looked so much better with longer hair (even though it wasn't as long as it was at the beginning of this film). And yes, I hated it.

Strictly a matter of personal opinion, which is always highly subjective.

It must have been a wig. Audrey had the same short hair cut already when doing the screen tests and you don't grow hair that long in a couple of months.

But she got her hair cut in the film-would they ever cut up a wig

reply

Many older films have people getting their hair cut, and 9 out of 10 times it is always a wig getting cut.

She seemed to prefer shorter hair. Her characters always get their hair cut or wear it pinned up so it looks very short. It's a cute look, most of the time. But it makes her look older. Maybe that's the point? I still prefer her hair longer. I actually yelled "Nooo" when she asked the barber to cut it.

I liked her hair longer too. I actually thought for a moment that Gregory Peck might try to stop her when he was lurking in the doorway of the barber shop. But I realize he didn't because it was what she wanted, and she didn't know he was following her anyway. But her hair still looked prettier long, in my opinion. I have never been a big fan of the "updo" look, that Audrey Hepburn, and many actresses from this time, wore so often.

He wouldn't have stopped her because at that moment she was still just a news story to him, and what a great story it would have been if she had her hair cut. Remember how he tries to get a camera to take pictures of the event.

the long hair is too 'school girl' and it goes with 'crackers and milk'. At the time the film was made the poodle cut, short Italian hair cuts etc. were all the rage. The haircut is a vital break with the 'obedient school girl' to the assured young woman in the end.

while I prefer the short hair, i have a story about my second son.

We watched this movie when he was about 2 years old. He had a thing for women with long hair. I had no idea how pronounced it was until this scene though.

when Ann's hair was cut, he was in tears; asking if her hair would ever come back.

He's 9 now, so I don't really know if this will translate to his preferences.

I always thought the long hair was real. And then I saw the screen test and her hair was short in that. She looks great either or with short or long hair.
