Jean Simmons/ The love story

I thought that Jean Simmons was one of the most beautiful actresses ever in this film. Agree?

I also thought the love story was done well, quite believable as done by the players, even if love was still kind of sudden for the Burton character. it still made sense with their friendship from childhood. Thoughts?

Yes, jfitz...I watched most of The Robe yesterday, and was struck by how very beautiful Jean Simmons was. Just a few years later (7, I think), in ElmerGantry, she looks to me like she's aged more than 7 years. It may be the makeup, and I'm not saying she wasn't still a beautiful woman, but she looks older than the 30 or 31 she would've been during the filming of Elmer Gantry.

But it is not your screams I want.

I agree that the love story was a big part of the film. At the conclusion, she gave-up the throne, being on the side of the evil corrupt Caligula, to die with her chosen husband. Nowadays, few would voluntarily die in such a manner. Diana was a true hero. Of course, these characters were all fiction thanks to Lloyd Douglas.
