I know he looks like a 10 year old boy BUT I assume he's been living in Neverland a long time AND he comes back to see Jane YEARS later, so how old is he, in terms of how many actual years do you think he's lived? I get the feeling he's pretty old.
That's a really tough question, especially considering his past is shrouded in such mystery beyond his parental abandonment (which is questionable, but he genuinely believes it happened) and that he ran away to Kensington Gardens. However the book and play do mention that Mrs. Darling had heard of the Peter Pan legend when she was young, if anything Peter does date back quite a bit of time. I would guess that the latest would probably be the early to mid 19th cent. since Mrs. Darling probably would have been born in the mid to late 19th cent. likely the 1860's or 1870's. So Peter himself would have had to come before this time for the legend to be in place when she's a girl herself.
Of course Mrs. Darling age isn't known either, but I always imagine her to be in her 30's and having had Wendy when she was in her 20's.
From now on I speak my mind and I bow down to no one.
I was always having the feeling he was around 50 maybe. This has always been ONE of my favorite tales, but it IS sorta a sad, depressing one deep down in it's core, seeing as how Peter would eventually lose everyone he cares about. I'm not even sure he would have Tinkerbell for ever, if faries eventually die too, and in the 1950 Mary Martin version, she was NOT with him when he came back to years later so I assumed she had died as well.
Yep in the book Tinkerbell is dead when Peter returns years later, and even sadder is that Peter has forgotten her. People come and go in Peter's life and as soon as he's done w/them he forgets them, he barely remembers Wendy. He doesn't even remember Hook after having killed him.
From now on I speak my mind and I bow down to no one.
