Disney's Captain Hook and WB's Sheriff of Nottingham

I cannot get over the resemblance between the Sheriff of Nottingham in Warner Brothers' "Rabbit Hood" and Captain Hook in Walt Disney's "Peter Pan".

A coincidence? Or did Disney rip-off Warners ("Rabbit Hood" came out in 1949; "Peter Pan" came out in 1953).

I belive Hook generally looked like that in the illustrations in JM Barrie's book.
