J.M. Barrie would've hated it

I think Barrie would've been Just like P.L. Travers and Roald Dahl. He would've protested to Disney and maybe even forbid him to do it. They changed his story from being so tragic to a kiddy movie.

I mean, he hated all previous films of it because they kept zooming in on Tink and the fairies when Barrie felt there was no need for closeups on fairies.

And he really hated how many films made Hook into a punchline, more of a comedic character instead a monstrous evil black hearted threatening villain. They all had to play him out for comic relief. Though I know he'd love both Jason Isaacs AND Danny Kaye's performances. They are the best. Isaacs has no funniness at all and is pure threatening and frightening. AMD Kaye did it Just like in the book, all charming.

Also, they cut out the pirates names (except Starkey)

And Hook is supposed to die

Also, the Indians were done all wrong.

And most importantly, they don't refer to Peter as a tragic character. Just a cocky kiddy kid who doesn't wanna grow up. It's not that he doesn't WANT to grow up, it's that he's drastically AFRAID of it. Disney didn't show any problems with the life he leads.

And the one thing I hated the most was they changed the hook to the left hand on Hook's hand instead of right.

And if Barrie had been against this film, I'd agree with him. Because I am a monster fan of Barrie's play and book.

That was the thing you hated the most? Why?

reply

My guess is because in previous Peter Pan films, actors for Captain Hook were right handed, so they would switch hands. Given that this is an animated movie and now they’re not limited by that anymore, and that JM Barrie went out of his way to point out that it was Hook’s right hand that had the hook, and that this movie goes out of its way to say it was Hook’s left hand that had the hook, even though it was no longer necessary…yeah.

Well, they did get Tinker Bell right.

"Why are you wearing a tux?"
"It's after six. What am I, a farmer?"

reply

The Disney animators modeled Tinker Bell on Marilyn Monroe. You can’t fuck that up.

The OP be needs to get over himself, and also stop obsessing over girls who look like boys.

reply

Actually, that's just a myth. It was someone named Margaret Kerry that they modeled Tinker Bell after.

I saw in a video about the original Peter Pan, the author's inspiration for "the boy who would never grow up",came from his mothers grief over the death of his elder sibling who died in a tragic ice skating accident at 14. His mother stated at his grave that he would eternally be her little boy, while her surviving children would become adults.

Dahl did not like the cinema version of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"? I read the book and saw the original film as a kid. I viewed the 1950's Pan as a teen with my mom and enjoyed it. I never knew Pan was originally sinister, since I never read the original book.
