Sub titles cut off at bottom of DVD??

I wanted to purchase a copy of this film on DVD or VHS however I've heard that the sub titles may be cut off. I saw this in the theatre about 40 years ago and have wanted a copy ever since. Does anyone have a copy and if so, is this correct about the sub-titles?

Criterion.com offers the DVD with lots of extra and commentary with the subtitles just fine. One of my favorite films. Also, offered in Netflix streaming, and of course regular DVD.
