I realise that Hollywood loves Gossip and Misinformation.
People claim that Mankiewicz visited England to choose his cast.
Paul Scofield claims he asked Peter Brook to supervise a screen test in London for the role of Marc Antony to be sent to Mankiewicz.
I hear gossip that Mankiewicz wanted Scofield as Antony, Michael Redgrave as Brutus and Gielgud as Cassius. These English thespians would have seemed odd mixing with the thuggish O'Brien and the other Yankees.
I wonder if any one knows the truth of these casting decisions.
