Missing statues?

I'm always very observant with movies and there's something that's been bothering me about this film in particular for years. I absolutely adore this picture. I think it's one of the best movies ever made and I know that goofs were more common in those days, but I've always noticed that during the fire scene in the original museum, there are a number of statues seen burning up close that can't be seen in the wide shots of the entire room. Several in particular are of a woman in a white dress with flowers in her hair, a man with glasses, a man in a bow-tie and a big smile, but the one that confuses me the most is one of a man (almost looks like Julius Ceasar) holding a torch which burns close to one of the gas lamps and is ultimately what causes the entire building to explode at the end of the scene. We do see Matthew fiddle with 2 gas lamps, one in the studio, and the other on the stairs, but we never do see him go up to the one next to this statue. Any thoughts on these "missing figures"?

"...can't be seen in the wide shots of the entire room. I thought that there was more than just one room, and you could not get all the exhibits into a single wide shot.

It's possible there was more than one room. They never do imply that there is more than one room in the original museum, but I honestly and quite frankly stupidly never even thought of that. The only reason I never did think of that was because in the second museum it appears that almost every statue that was in the first gallery was recreated for The House of Wax and none of those figures that I mentioned are seen in the new museum. Oh well, it's not important, just something I've always wondered. The statue with the torch is what really confuses me, though, considering we never see Matthew go up to the lamp next to it and fiddling with it.
