Original theatrical release question

Does anyone know if this film was originally released theatrically in a flat version as well as 3D?

According to a comment in one of the extras on the Blu-ray, yes. Not all theaters were capable of projecting film in 3D nor willing to invest in the equipment to do so.

Yes, released in 2d, however it was perhaps the most successful of the early 3d movies. It caused more theaters to convert to support 3d. It also probably caused the studios to push for more 3d than was wise which helped lead to the collapse of the first 3d movie craze.
