Banned in Finnland?
Did anyone else notice that this flick was banned in Finnland? The question quickly becomes 'why?!'

shareDo people still use a lot of candles in Finnland? Maybe they just want to make sure the econony doesn't suffer due to a fear of wax.
The penguins are calling and I can't find my way out of the labyrinth.
The movie was banned in 1953! That is like 50 years ago! Like the rest of the nordic countries Finland has one of the most liberal censorships in the world today!
shareIs it still banned today?
shareNo it´s not.
shareisnt corpse killer kind of redundant?
shareIt is a reference toward killing zombies, or the undead.
I happen to be a big fan of zombie movies. :)
So why was it banned inititally?
shareMost likely because of the suggestions of nudity -or perhaps because of the violence.
The scene early on where the killer strangles the accountant in his office and then dumps the body in the elevator shaft is very brutal and still quite shocking -even today.
The make-up, too, is more than a little horrific for the period.
It would not be hard to imagine the effect on a 1953 pre-PSYCHO audience.
Wasn't Donald Duck banned in Finnlan, too, for not wearing pants? They're really are tough on censorship, aren't they?
shareGoddamnit, it's Finland, not Finnland!
Dogs can't look up!
lol Finnland,
shareNo, it is Finland. Now shut up, bend over, and let me SHAG you!
shareActually the banning of donald duck in Finland because he didnt wear pants is a myth. They stopped ordering the magazine into youth centers ( in Helsinki ) because of financial problems and somehow got twisted by the media to mean they banned the comic because of donalds absence of pants and stuff.
Whole story in http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/finland.htm
All of these movies where banned in mylasia!!!!!

Wait a minute... Babe was banned but not Animal Farm or Eraserhead?
It sounds like the censorss in Malaysia are very strange people.
Most horror films were banned in Finland from the 50s through to the late 70s as their censorship and decency laws were very, very strict and the country was very isolationistic in those days. Norway used to ban most 'gory' horror films, also with many famous horror films not being seen there until 2003, which makes me wonder if their censorships rules were altered. Sweden wasn't quite as bad.
"We find ourselves like a hollow glass globe, from the emptiness of which - a voice speaks."
Thats crazy about the malaysia list, I remember looking at it before.
'I put the diamond in the coat,.....I put the coat on her!'
It's really pathetic!!!! Malaysia's media board (hope not offending)are really quite strange. Shrek, PRince of Egypt, Babe...what did they do to deserve it???!!!!
sharei'm from malaysia,i agree any outsider will be shocked by our cencorship board but they have their reasons. We are very particular about the cultures and ideas affecting our people. Though i do believe there are loopholes concerning how they evaluate movies but generally it doesnt bring about anything.
i dont know why they banned shrek but they decided to re-rated it and finally allowed it
As for prince of egypt, Malaysia is an Islamic country, our religion prohibited any form of depicting prophets as in this case prophet Moses

Too cool! Now I REALLY want to visit Finnland AND Mylasia! I've long been offended by Donald Duck's lack of pants and that pesky internet annoyance SPELL-CHECK! Ah, relief at last!

Perhaps it was even banned in Finland.....
Remember When Movies Didn't Have To Be Politically Correct?
Where did you even get this information? It was not banned, it was shown in the theaters in 1953 and on television in the 80's. And it's Finland, not Finnland.
shareMany horror movies were banned here by illogical, hypocritical censors of the day, while own movies could show realistically foul language and graphic (for it´s time) violence like Unknown soldier (1955), show glimpse of excrement (one movie by Teuvo Tulio) or an alcoholic man eating dung to get drink (I don´t remember name of the flick).
