Two questions about the clothing Prewitt wears his first time off base

Maggio gives him a shirt and says "my sister bought it for me, she buys everything too big"

1. They are in Hawaii, the shirt appears to be Hawaiian print. Wouldn't it be more likely that the shirts would've been bought IN Hawaii? Did the US even have Hawaiian print shirts in 1941?

2. Maggio doesn't give him any pants, if he had no clothes other than his uniform (which was pretty normal back then I guess for military men)......where did the pants come from? Is he wearing his uniform pants? They look as if they could be his uniform pants.

Maybe he meant his sister was visiting and she bought him something. Or it could have been one of his and the sister line was just so Prew wouldn't think he was getting charity.

As far as I know, soldiers could have civilian clothing once they were out of basic training. But he could have worn his uniform pants too.
