nice little 'cruise ship' noir, but Jeanne Crain was just terrible

all of her hysteria scenes were really hard to watch. she just yelld half sentences and breathed heavily. the scene where the doctor slaps her while knocking off her earring was a true delight.

"Holy Bananas, It's a girl's Leg!"

That is just your opinion..............Jeanne (Ruth) thought she was going insane, so how do you expect her to behave in such unusual circumstances ! ......I thought she played the scene alright.

Jeanne, Gloria, Toby, Mitzi, Eleanor(2), Frances, Deborah, Marion - are adorable - I love them all.

Have to agree with you, watchamacallit.

I just watched this and while I enjoyed the whole thing overall, the one thing that kept troubling me was the way Ruth behaved through most of the movie.

Even before the first phone call from John, telling her about the "great danger," she realized that the people who she was speaking to about the sudden disappearance of her husband thought she was crazy. I called out one time, "For the love of Mike, just pretend to go along with them or they'll think you're nuts!"

Then, finally, came a scene where he hear her thoughts, telling herself that very point. But it didn't take because a few minutes later, she was back to being hysterical and running around instead of going along with everyone so they wouldn't drug her and confine her to her room, or whatever.

I agree with the reviewer who wrote that after he called and told her about the danger, saying he was hiding and that he'd call tomorrow night, she should have quit searching for him, because finding him and getting others to continue the search might well put him in more danger.

I will say the way Ruth behaved was unrealistic and not logical on her part. It was also annoying to see her fainting all the time. I think the blame can be spread between Jeanne Crain, the writer and the director.

More or less agree. She was incredibly beautiful but over-acted a bit in this one.

Obviously, in those days, a hefty slap around the face by a doctor was seen as a good alternative to a sedative!

A frustrating movie with much over-acting by Crain.

Crain has never impressed me. In this film, she has two modes -- scared/upset and slutty/seductive. The latter is particularly embarrassing, as she's just trying to be friendly. How would she behave if she were actually trying to seduce a man?

Newman's direction (if you can call it that) doesn't help.

Crain was never much of an actress. Mediocre in everything. In this, she is completely annoying.
