completely fall for Bill Hickcock (or Howard Keele) when he sang "Higher than a hawk"? I know I did... yum. That voice. Always makes me think about being serenaded by someone completely in love with me...as if but here's hoping *sigh*
OH YES!!! You know that you are getting old when you begin to fancy the same men as your Mum - mind you she fancied him in Dallas, when he was old and grey.
yeah he is quite the catch but im having trouble indecided on him and christopher plummer who is in the sound of music but both sexy people in ther time
I love... I love... I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on"
Yeah he's such a lovely guy and with an amazing voice! I fancied him up until i saw Seven Brides in which time i switched to Frank and Gideon Pontipee. Mmmmmmm
Gil you've got something stuck to your shoe...oh wait its just Sanders

bwahahah i was so the same (frank and gideon) plus i prefer Howard as a brunette and with no facial hair), though my mum fancied the stong and silent type of benjamin (ew!!) my little sister like ephraim, and yes i can still name all 7 brothers, and my mum, me and lil sis always do the shocked "Dorcas Gailen!" and how cute was alice? anyways!
Yup, absolutely heart-melting. I'd love to be serenaded by him, but like you, I think it's unlikely to happen - still, one can dream! I can't remember who posted it now but I know what you mean about people thinking you mean you fancy 80-year-olds or whatever - we mean the way they looked back then!

Oh definitely - & quite a few of the numbers seem serenade-y there cos he's trying to woo Kathryn Grayson with them. Great film overall as well, I'll need to watch it again soon.
I've been in love with Howard Keel since the first time I saw him. I must have been 8 or 9, and I love him still, even though he's gone.
Howard had it all - gorgeous face, body and a voice to die for. I think I've been looking for my own Howard Keel since those early days. Sadly, he was unique and we won't see his like again.
This movie is wonderful for watching Howard Keel. But, then, any of his work is wonderful, especially the musicals.
The one musical I have a hard time with is "Showboat," mostly because the Edna Ferber book is so sad. I can't watch the movie without remembering the book. My other fave Keel movies are "Jupiter's Darling" where he plays Hannibal, and "Kismet" where he's Haaj the Beggar. Great vehicles for him.
