A fun film
It's dated better than a lot of other films from that period, is paced well, has likeable characters and I rather enjoyed it... The portrayal of Native Americans is a little problematic. But, it was made 60 years ago. So, I suppose you have to make allowances... And, on the way to the ball, Calamity says something along the lines of how the area is so beautiful that it's hardly surprising the "Injuns" fight to keep it, which suggests that they did give the Native American point of view at least a very brief thought while writing the script.
