Why did the police have to go thru all the telephone operators when they could have just asked the employees of the Blue Gardenia restaurant what his date looked like? (Anne Baxter).The blind lady selling the gardenias was the one who told the newspaperman what material her dess was and the girl with her only guessed it was black.

And the newspaper guy.You'd think he would have remembered that Harry had a date with the phone number he heard earlier in the day?? Or at least the face of the operator who gave him the number.(Ann Southern)

Well, it was a busy night at The Blue Gardenia and perhaps the waiters wouldn't have remembered Harry's date. What surprised me was Casy Mayo couldn't put two and two together and figure out Anne was the "friend" she was talking about! So much for street smarts!
Ann Sothern gave a great performance I thought, and nearly walked away with the picture!

He was highly suspicious of her, but she led him away when she showed that she did have a handkerchief, and of a completely different style from the one found in the telephone booth. You can see the relieved expression on his face as he sees the handkerchief (when she cleans her lap of cigarette ashes in his office).

Any movie that turns on the style of a handkerchief is one Must See.
I've never heard of this film before. Yeah I know, Fritz Lang, so how could that be?

I don't even know how I ended up looking for it, but I guess I must have been on the search for noir and neo-noir, as I usually am. And yeah, Fritz Lang too. I really must find the time one of these days to write some comments on my latest viewings, Gardenia included, 'cause they are piling up. This flick was surely nice though - not quite as noir as I was hoping, but relaxing and smart, quite pleasant for a hot summer evening.
