I expected a big confrontation at the end between Glenn Ford and Alexander Scourby's character. Instead, Ford and Lee Marvin traded shots.

What happened to Scourby's character?

That's right, it's almost like he disappeared or something! Once the cops drag Lee Marvin away, next thing you see is Ford in his office answering his phone. There is never any mention of the Scourby character. So are we to assume that he was picked up or did he go free? I'll have to watch the ending again in case I missed something.

Justice triumphs, of course: the transition shot between Gloria Grahame's death in Lee Marvin's apartment and Glenn Ford's return to the force is a Kenport Courier EXTRA with the headline "Lagana [i.e., Scourby], Higgins Indicted" and "Duncan Confession Exposes Crime Syndicate."
