How could Bannion be so sure about Lagana involvement after the phone call to her wife? I mean, Lagana is a powerful guy, is not very wise of Bannion to come at him like that without any evidence.

"Nuthin' goes down in this town without Laganas ok ..." Not verbatim by a long shot but Bannion says as much. Its not like it was a prank phone call, it was specific and the foul language was ancillary, just the way a punk hood naturally talks. In the 50s, pranks were: "Is your 'fridge running" ..."Yeah ? Well you better go chase it !!" or calling a variety store and asking "You got Prince Albert (pipe tobacco) in a can ?" .... "Yeah ? Well ya better let 'em out !!". You could lose your phone service in a heart beat back then if you were caught using foul words so most people avoided it. Ya just knew the operator was lurking in the background or could break in at any time. Yes I as a wise a** kid learned this first hand.
