Ray Harryhausen discusses the Beast

Last week, while plugging his new book, Ray Harryhausen appeared at a screening of THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS and discussed the film.

You can see a videoclip of the Q&A session here: http://hollywoodgothique.com/beastfrom20000fathoms1953.html

The video link is at the bottom of the page, after a review. Just scroll down and you'll find it.

There's a very nice interview with Harryhausen on the Region 1 DVD in which he talks at some length about doing the stop motion animation effects for the movie.

"Warren Oates died for our sins"

"Warren Oates died for our sins"

A jab at Christianity. How original.

I wonder who the unnamed producer was that Ray Harryhausen and Ray Bradbury complained about.

reply

Nevermind, I found the answer. The producer was Robert Lippert and the film was Lost Continent.

"Mr. Lippert, Ray Bradury..."
"Yes?"
"It won't make a dime."

Yep it was Lippert as Ray "auditioned" for the film (and didn't get it because LOST CONTINENT was sooooo cheap)

Yes and here's something else...Ray Bradbury wrote a story called TYRANNOSAURUS REX which was loosely based on the trouble that Ray Harryhausen had on BEAST with producer Hal Chester, who was a real turd.

They filmed the story as an episode of "The Ray Bradbury Theater". It came out really well~very funny.

*** The trouble with reality is there is no background music. ***

A self-righteous Christian who takes undue offense at trivial things just because they can. NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE.

reply

Too bad that self righteous Christian can't see his own hypocrisy.

reply

Not really...just finding the baIting a bit boring....now if he went to Dearborn & said that Warren Oates died for the salvation of the Ummah...I'd pull up a chair & pop some popcorn.
