Girl Hunt Ballet

Does anyone know the name of the place (bar, cafe) where the Girl Hunt Ballet sequence (the detective-story parody) happens?

I appreciate your help.

I think it's "Dem Bones" cafe.

The Girl Hunt Ballet is a reference to "The Vampire" (1897), a once-popular poem by Rudyard Kipling:

"A fool there was, and he made his prayer,
(Even as you and I!)
To a rag and a bone and a hank of hair
(We called her the woman who did not care)
But the fool he called her his lady fair---
(Even as you and I!)"

The initial clues are a rag, a bone and a hank of hair. Astair then finds the matching cloth, then the "Dem Bones Bar" and then the girl.

Thanks for some really interesting info, Acapulqueno! I always wondered about that phrase, as it seemed too odd to be originated in the film. I love that ballet, it takes turns being cool and hilarious and the subway sequences are beautiful.

The narration for the Girl Hunt Ballet was written by the extremely brainy but uncredited Alan Jay Lerner.

Non ho dovuto mai dormire sotto quell'arco!
Bene, forse una volta, due volte.

This is in my opinion one of the greatest extended dance sequences of all MGM musicals and right up there with the brilliant work of Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron in the American in Paris ballet sequence. Cyd Charisse is spellbinding and her leg line if off the charts gorgeous. The choreograhy is some of the most imaginative and creative ever done. Great stuff.

The choreography is unsurpassd. And the dancing equally wonderful. What a gem!
