Viva Zapata Is Not Such A Great Film !!

Viva Zapata is an OK film-But just OK. In a film with Brando & Quinn in the lead roles & a screenplay by Steinbeck & directed, I expected much more. I doubt that this film is very much historically accurate. Although the whole film was supposed to be set in Mexico, I really don't remember hearing any Spanish. The film is rather melodramatic & although the acting by Brando & Quinn was pretty good, that was just not enough to carry the film for me. This film was entertaining but I can't believe that it won so many awards, again showing me that film "awards" are no sign for me of how good a film really is.

It actually didn't win much.

Right. & when you get right down to it On The Waterfront was a cornball boxing film & Godfather is your typical run-of-the-mill mafia claptrap. Nevertheless all 3 far surpass anything else in their respective categories.

You are asking too much of it, being as it is from 1952. OK is a lesser take on it than I have. I enjoyed it even though yeah it is 'rather melodramatic'. 8/10.
