Not as good as the novel

For me it didn't live up to the hype, for years I heard about "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and now I wish I hadn't. Direction is way worse than I thought, and the story is told in the worst possible manner. I give it a 3 out of 10, because of the stars otherwise it would have been 1!

If you haven't read the story, read it. The movies fails in many ways and then they lop off the ending.

Three stars?! Perhaps the film doesn't live up to the promise of Hemingways' original story, but few pictures do. Even with the Hollywood ending, it's still a fine film in its own right, with a fantastic performance from Peck. Great direction and cinematography...7 or 8 out of ten would seem more fitting.

When is a film ever as good a the book it is meant to be based on?.'The Snows of Kilimanjaro' was OK in its day but does seem dated by todays standards. The film is worth watching though for the fantastic leading ladies, Susan Hayward, Ava Gardner and the talented, beautiful - and wasted by Hollywood, Hildegarde Neff (Knef).
