NBC Saturday Nigh at the Movies

I saw this wonderful movie on “NBC Saturday Night at the Movies” in the 1960s. Many of the 20th Century Fox movies they showed during those first few seasons are still personal favorites of mine. Does anybody else have fond memories of this network series and the movies they presented each Saturday night?

And if “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is a favorite of yours, click on the link below and say hello to folks who feel the same way you do.

Yes. My sisters and I surely did enjoy watching Saturday Night at the Movies. My Dad loved movies and we got that from him. Wasn't the first film they showed 'How to Marry a Millionaire'? I remember my Dad telling us to watch this movie very closely and learn!! I remember watching Snows of Kilimanjaro several times and just saw it tonight on AMC. Different perspective now than then as a child. I remember it being very romantic with the love between Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner. I loved the romantic movies they showed, especially, of course, 'An Affair to Remember'. But my favorite movie was 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Even as a child I appreciated the respectful salute Michael Rennie gave Patricia Neal before he leaves. The music makes this movie so scary! It scared me how Rennie threatens the earth but now as an adult it makes more sense what he's saying. This movie has not dated and I haven't bothered to see the remake as it can't possibly be as good. I'll visit the site of the link you provide. Thanks for that!

When I was about ten years old (circa 1969), I remember watching "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" on NBC's "Saturday Night at the Movies". I had a chest cold and I couldn't laugh, because I'd start coughing. I suppressed the laughs as much as I could and I swear to you I woke up the next day with sore ribs, as in "you'll laugh so much your sides will ache" (your heart will go pit-a-pat watching Felix, the wonderful cat!)...but I digress.

I would love to see and hear the opening of "NBC Saturday Night at the Movies" as it appeared in the 1960's. It featured a wonderful montage of flashing theater marqee lights, with an orchestra playing an exciting fanfare rush of adrenaline. If anyone knows where I can see this again, please let me know.

I became a big Robert Wagner fan because "NBC Saturday Night at the Movies" aired such films as "Titanic" (the 1953 version), "Prince Valiant" and "Stars and Stripes Forever." I also became enchanted with Marilyn Monroe in "Monkey Business" (with Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers) and "River of No Return" (with Robert Mitchum). I remember being so sad when she died.
