Poison Ivy is Forgiven?

Well after Poison Ivy (Patrice Wymore) spotted Don and Angela at the lakeside romantically involved, (coming there on a false date herself to spy on them) she went through with her threat to reveal to the college newspaper Angela's past as a burlesque performer, nearly costing Professor Palmer his job, and Angela's starring role in the play along with her expulsion from Mid West State.

Then Ivy is quite happily in the musical still performing her major role. Nobody seemed to mind anymore with what she had done. Is this evidence of a different era, if things like that happen, you just take it on the chin? What right did she have to go through someone's private trunk for instance, and stealing property, which she even admitted? You could sue a person for doing this now. If that story line existed today, there may have been an "accidental" drowning at the lakeside, at a post play pleasure cruise, as revenge is more a part of story lines.
