Fatima is also a theme in Tom Clancy's best selling novel, Red Rabbit. The assassination attempt on John Paul II in 1981, is incorporated into the story. The principal character, Jack Ryan, former marine, turned CIA analyst has to assist getting a Russian defector and his family to safety. He has a devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. During the Cold War, one might have though this was assumed from the perspective of a practicing Catholic.
