That ending was so awesome we just watched it twice! It is one of the most beautifully choreographed things ever, with that exquisite tableau and that dramatic music. Probably one of the most memorable moments ever put on film.

Guilty. For all the reasons stated.

I don't want to give any spoilers. Both are excellent endings, but personally, Limelight's finale is more emotional and complex.

reply

Yes I did.

Why do you refuse to remember me?

Would I have to?
No, I cry at other movies, not here. Oh, no, I love this movie, and I find absolutely nothing wrong with it!
The end is sad, and yet, it is an end that I could wish for all, throughout the film, and one like I could wish for myself. It is sad, indeed, and yet it is fulfilling.
Calvero has exactly what he wanted: success, cheering audience, again!
Terry has no more need to be drawn between Neville and Calvero. Neville, I guess, will marry Terry. Terry will, we hope, continue her world career.

At the first moment, I considered Terry even heartless, when she saw Calvero covered with a white blanket in the wings, and yet continued her dance unabated. But then I saw the glimpse of hope: instead of her losing her feeling in the legs, again, she would be able to pick up from here. Life continues, and it always continues into one direction: forward!

The end? I cried all through it.

This is the first time I've seen this movie, and I kept thinking damn, what a genius, he did it again. I know Chaplin is a giant in film history, but I still think he's underrated.
