A scene that might have helped.

What I think might have cleared up a few things would have been a flashback or two of Frank Miller in Hadleyville. We would have gotten a sense of just how bad a man Miller was. As good as the movie is, we just don't really get a glimpse of how much Miller influenced the town. For both the good and bad people.

Miller's time in Hadleyville (good and bad) was alluded to several times. I think that any flashbacks would have hurt the pacing of the movie as we are swept along to the high noon shootout ending. Also, flashbacks would have made the movie more about Miller and taken away from Kane's personal struggle to do the right thing.

I said one or two, not enough for the whole movie. I always suspected that Kane and Miller may have been friends before Miller became an outlaw and Kane a sheriff.

I see your point, but I always thought that the Will Kane-Helen Ramirez-Frank Miller triangle should have been it's own movie...a prequel to High Noon. There is a lot more going on there than a flashback could have portrayed.

A prequel sounds like a good idea.
