There are a few brief scenes in the movie which show Lee Van Cleef with some bloody scratches on his right cheek prior to the gunfight at the end...yet there are no action scenes in the movie in which he would have received such damage prior to the climax. All he did was sit around at the depot waiting for the train.
Dumb question, but I am curious.
I think they show them on his face when he rides in with the other men at the beginning. Speaking of trivia, did you know Van Cleef had originally auditioned for the part of Harve Pell (played by Lloyd Bridges)? They actually wanted Van Cleef to alter his appearance too much, and Van Cleef wasn't going to stand for it. Thus, they used him as one of the bad guys.
Yippee: "For king!"
Yappee: "For country!"
Yahooie: "And, most of all, for 10¢ an hour!"
I think Van Cleef once said in an interview that they wanted him to get a nose job for the role as Harve but he refused.
