Heavy-Handed

I liked "High Noon" but found it to be heavy-handed. I watched it without knowing anything about it but I could tell that it came laden with an earnest agenda. Also, I found Gary Cooper to be wooden and expressionless. It felt a bit like one of Rod Serling's teleplays. Enjoyable, but one can't escape the feeling one is being lectured to.

I think he was portraying the "strong, silent type" of western character. To me, it seemed to fit the situation, especially as he was also older and supposedly had long experience as a lawman.

I'm curious as to your feeling that one is being lectured to. What would be the sum and substance of the lecture?

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe he won an Oscar.
