READ the BOOK
If any of you want to see how a great story in a great book gets done in by Hollywood, read the original "The Big Sky" by A. B. Guthrie. And then read the sequel "The Way West".

AMEN.
Guthrie's The Big Sky is NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING like this movie. I truly have always enjoyed the movie, but I just read the book for the first time, and it is a masterpiece in ways that the movie cannot even express.
These two things are so unlike as to be ridiculous.
I'm not sure why they went that way, but the names are in the movie, not the characters.
CRAZY!
I wonder what A. B. Guthrie had to say about that?

Boy do I agree. The Big Sky is one of my favorite books. I loan it out but always want it back to reread. Same with Caravans by James Michener. Just watched the movie on TCM (still the bad quality talked about by others here). As enjoyable as the film is the book has a greater story and depth.
